Three-time world champ boxer Jeff Fenech hits out about mates, The Man and mouthing off

You’re looking fit, mate.

I still train pretty hard for an old guy. I try to do at least 10km every day. Most days under 40 minutes — not too bad for a 45-year-old.

Anyone you’d like to belt the crap out of in the ring these days?
If I were in my prime again, when I was in top condition and had a chin of granite, I’d love to step in the ring with Anthony Mundine.

Who’d win?
I’ve got no doubt I would’ve beat him. I would’ve smashed him, no doubt whatsoever. Jeff Harding would’ve killed him.

You’ve traded a few verbal haymakers with him.
He talks a pretty good game, though.

Yeah, mate — he’s a better five-eighth than Brad Fittler, better than Laurie Daley. He probably thinks he’s a better batsman than Bradman. He’s one of the greatest self-promoters in the history of the sport. In that sphere, he leaves Jeff Fenech and just about everybody else for dead.

So you still love us all?
Too right I do. I still love youse all. A million per cent. When you’re loved and admired by a crowd and they let you know it, mate, it’s an incredible feeling — better than Sex.

You were pretty tough.
There probably hasn’t been a competitor in any other sport who’s had to deal with the pain I had competing across an entire career. I was born with my knuckles facing out and fought every fight with busted hands. Every fight, every training session, I had to get injected. Every fight, my hands were like Balloons. I always kept punching through the pain — I don’t know if that’s toughness or madness.

Let’s talk about your recent bust-up with your mate Peter Mitrevski. Talking to each other yet?
I’ve tried, but no we’re not. I punched Peter, but not like the way he said it happened. I never king hit him from behind. We got into a grapple and my punch hit him on the chest and rebounded and caught him on a tooth — his false tooth, which fell out.

Were you disappointed he contacted the cops?
If he stabbed me in the back, if he chopped my arm off, I wouldn’t ring the police. He’s like a brother to me.

The “watch-theft incident” on the Gold Coast a few years ago — is that something you still cringe about?
Of course it is. I hate it and I regret it badly. I will say this, though — to steal something, you’ve gotta walk out of the shop with it. I never walked out of the shop with anything. Yes, I knew what was going on and what the people I was with were doing, but I never stole anything.

My mother could beat mundine...but then.......SHE IS A TOUGH MUTHA!
poor poor fenech still trying to be in the spot light. the only way we will ever no whos better is when both of use are in the ring. fenech u say u could have won mundine in ur days well we r not in ur days ne more we r in mundines days. mundine will win u in his back yard, ur back yard hell even in my back yard. and for those people that say mundine is not the best well i would love to see use try to stop him. his the best boxer in austraila to day. i would love to watch fenech and mundine fight just so i can see mundine shut up fenech. and fenech i hope u read this so u can wake up from ur dreams and get on with ur life.
Pound for pound fenech by a country mile.I look forward to the day mouth mundine gets it in the neck.I also hope the guy who does it is a gentleman, picks him up, dusts him off and knocks him face over apex again
everyone in the boxing world knows mundine picks the easiest opponents, and the general public buys it.even now he calls out felix sturm who is clearly the easiest of the three major middleweight champions,he calls out kelly pavlik because he knows that fight wont happen and arthur abraham i dont here him call him out at all.why would he fight pavlik who is a knockout artist, mundine got knocked out by sven ottke who had at the time the worst knockout percentage in world boxing, mundine's losses have all come at the hands of the fights they have not been able to hand pick and in all the fights he has merely tried to survive instead of risk getting knocked out and maybe actually having achance of winning the fight.bring on pavlik i say to put an end to mundine for good.
Fenech was not prepared to prove himself against the likes of Lester Ellis and Mundine shut his critics up when Green was found not to be in Mundines league. Mundine and Geal was a good fight that could have gone either way and you have to go with the judges decision.
You got to remember Fenech V Sugar Shane Mosley fight. The first one. Every one who saw that fight know he got robbed . Fenech got robbed in the US, he won that fight strait up beating the legendary Mosley. He can be a *** h but on that day he had and showed the spirit of a true champion like when Harding knocked out D Andries in the 12 round to wint the WBC title. Like to see Mundine just once to fight a same caliber fighter's like Mosley , not just keep on talking ***. Hey Greeny loosing lot's of power to go down to fight in Mundine division.
Do you think Jeff Fenech would have beat Anthony Mundine? Both Jeff Fenech and Anthony Mundine have a big mouth and they are too confident just like that Muslim called Osama Bin Ladden that hates the Infidels. All I have to do is eat a can of Mexican's Beans and Fart at their faces at the same time and they will drop down to the floor like Lui the Fly.
Boxing is all about weight divisions. In his prime. as Fenech said - Jeff "The Hitman" Harding would have annihilated Mundine. No Contest. Mundine wouldn't have remember where the fight was held - his head would be punched into next month. The hitman fought a real World champion, for a real title - and won it twice. Mundine fights for the gate money. He's not a boxer - he's an opportunist who moved to boxing. Love to hear what Muncine Senior thinks... All Respect for Fenech - but the weight difference would probably be too great - but my money would still be on Fenech - for guts and determination.
Enough though fenech was tough and tenacious he was very limited in the skills department .Mundine just gets better and has great boxing skills though his toughness is suspect.i rate him a better fighter than fenech ever was.
Just watched the mudine fight. Not a fan of either but what a joke australian boxing is. Mudine never won the fight...MONEY talks $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Daniel hold yr head up high. U drew if not won the fight. Hurry up Mudine go to America. U will come back like Hoppa - A loser
