Last month, Jeff McMullen told the story of David Reimer, a Canadian boy who suffered terrible disfigurement during a botched circumcision.
The doctors' solution was to literally turn David into a girl - a decision which would leave lasting physical and psychological scars.
At the time, McMullen reported that this barbaric procedure was also followed in Australia ... and now a 30-year-old Melbourne woman has stepped out of the shadows to tell of the lie she's been forced to live all her life.
She too was surgically altered as a child, and has never felt comfortable as a female. As she says, "I always wanted to be a boy ... but I was scared to voice the way I felt."
In this story, McMullen tells of Antoinette's life of confusion, and consults one of Australia's leading academics, who warns that both doctors and parents face future litigation over this practice of sexual reassignment.
